The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has given transport parastatal Transnet the green light to raise its tariffs for users of its fuel pipelines by 6,09%.
If the minister of energy decided to use the pipeline tariff as a proxy for the cost of transporting fuel from Durban to Johannesburg — as had been the case in the past — then the expected petrol price rise would be 0,7 cents per litre, Nersa said in a statement on Friday.
Transnet had initially applied for a 51,3% tariff increase to help it fund its pipeline being built between Johannesburg and Durban, Nersa said. — Sapa
