Publishing house Two Dogs is giving readers the chance to design the cover of Azad Essa’s new book, Zuma’s Bastard.
The book, which is a compilation of Essa’s blog posts. revised and updated, along with some new work, includes a forward by Ferial Haffajee (Editor-in-Chief of City Press, former M&G editor) and will be widely available in bookstores, as well as online.
Essa says about the book: ”Breaking into the world of publishing is difficult and I am obviously thrilled that Two Dogs have taken on this project
”Zuma’s bastard is a collection of some of the best work from the blog which won the blog award in 2009 – revised and updated – and it will also include new unpublished and uncensored work
”The blog has been fairly controversial for its politically incorrect take on the world. The book goes one further and is a jihad on dimwittedness. No one is spared”.
The winner will receive R2500 in cash, and will be credited in the book. The winning design will feature on the cover, and will be featured at the book’s launch as well as on the Two Dogs website.
He adds: ”I know how difficult it is to break into world of publishing and design and so I am big on creating spaces for showcasing fresh talent. The writing has always engaging, reflective and social, and so it makes sense to extend this to the creative process of the cover of this book.
”We are obviously looking for a cover that will captures the irreverence of the writing; something cheeky, funky yet poignant.
”It’s young, its edgy and its treacherous and this is why we want a young designer to illustrate their interpretation of the writing into a cover”
