    Zakes Mda the novelist and playwright said of Ronnie Govender that ‘the main reason for his not being better known is that Govender is too good to be famous. He does not follow a formula that is proven to sell plays but his style is highly creative and innovative”.

    Ronnie Govender has won amongst others the following awards -The Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for The Best First Book Africa, Life Time Literary Achievement Award from The Department of Arts and Culture, Life Time Achievement Award for Excellence in the Arts from The Arts and Culture Trust of SA, South Africa’s 3rd highest national honour The Order of Ikhamengha from the State President. He has been declared ‘A Living Legend” by Ethekwini Municipality and KZN Premier’s Office.
