The ANC’s national working committee announced on Monday that the party’s national general council in Durban last month had been a “resounding success”.
“It fulfilled its intended outcomes of being a massive political school as it afforded branch delegates to be part of regional and provincial general councils,” spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said in a statement.
“It enabled the organisation as a whole, its leagues and its alliance partners to evaluate and review progress made since the 52nd conference held in Polokwane in 2007.”
It ensured discipline had to be enforced “without blinking”.
On the economic front, the NGC had informed the ANC to reduce high unemployment, deepening poverty and growing inequality.
“The national working committee would like to restate and reaffirm the NGC resolution that the role of the state in the economy is fundamental and greater than the matter of the nationalisation of the mines.”
The party would conduct an “in-depth study” on how the country’s natural resources could best benefit all South Africans. – Sapa
