PAC founder member dies

Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) of Azania founder member Edward Sonnyboy Bhengu has died, the party said on Monday.

“Bhengu was a loyal member of the PAC and had been in and out of jail for his political activities,” said party spokesperson Lehlohonolo Shale in a statement.

He said that Bhengu — also the eldest brother of internationally celebrated poet Don Mattera — died on Sunday morning at a Soweto hospice after liver complications.

Shale said that Bhengu, who was born on November 8 1934, was affectionately known as “Bra Sanza”.

He will be buried on Friday in Soweto.

The party extended condolences to his family. — Sapa
