With 16 programmes, Dance Umbrella once again promises to reflect the wide diversity of the contemporary dance scene in South Africa.
Choreographers who will present work this year include Lliane Loots from Durban, PJ Sabbagha, Mark Hawkins and Sifiso Kweyama from Johannesburg, and Remix Dance Company and Mamela Nyamza from Cape Town, amongst others.
Dance Umbrella 2011 is offering a series of masterclasses which will be facilitated by the following choreographers/teachers:
Lliane Loots from UKZN/Flatfoot Dance Company Durban will facilitate a workshop on Friday February 25 at 10am. She will be doing a workshop together with Flatfoot Dance Company. They will be working on the release technique and the workshop will be two hours long.
- Malcolm Black from the Remix Dance Company in Cape Town will give a two-hour workshop that unites disabled dancers with contemporary dance on March 3 at 10am
.
- Jamila Rodriguez, who is currently studying her masters degree at the University of Cape Town, will give a master class which will be a mixture of release technique, capoeira and break dance styles. This will be on Friday March 4 at 10am
- The last workshop will be facilitated by Mamela Nyamza on March 5 at 10:00. She will give a two hour long workshop on how to use props and costumes in a way that they become part of your work.
The free classes will take place at The Dance Space, 1 President Street, Newtown.
