Roach terrorism case postponed

Roach Terrorism Case Postponed

The case against terrorism accused Brian Roach was postponed in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

This was after Roach’s defence asked for a postponement to be able to finalise “some small items” and get in touch with the National Prosecuting Authority with regards to the charges he was facing.

Roach was arrested over a week ago in Hartbeespoort, in North West, following allegations that he had sent threatening emails and letters to the United Kingdom.

In these letters he allegedly demanded $4-million to be paid in Krugerrands, as they were “untraceable”, in exchange for not releasing foot-and-mouth disease within the borders of the UK.

According to the charge sheet in court, the threatening action was allegedly committed to secure compensation for the losses incurred by the farming community of Zimbabwe.

At his last appearance, Roach admitted to the alleged actions he was accused of but also indicated that he was going to challenge the aspect of whether or not they amounted to terrorism.

He is facing charges related to terrorism, extortion and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. — Sapa
