Young artists around the country showcase their artworks for the coveted Absa L’Atelier Award.
Africa’s longest-running annual art competition — and possibly its richest — which has become an essential landmark in the lives of young artists aged between 21 and 35. The award comes with a R110 000 cash prize and a six-month sabbatical at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France, with a second prize to the value of R80 000 awarded to the Most Promising Artist comprised of a three-month sabbatical at the Cité, French language classes and nationwide touring exhibitions sponsored by the French Embassy, French Institute and the Alliance Française. Four runners-up will each pocket R25 000 and the top ten finalists will each receive a R2 000 bonus prize.
