Honeydew Quiet After Protests

Honeydew was quiet on Thursday after Zandspruit residents took to the streets on Wednesday to protest against poor service delivery, Gauteng police said.

“The situation has been quiet overnight and the road [Beyers Naude drive] has been opened,” Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said on Thursday morning.

He said 88 people had been arrested for public violence.

A police officer was slightly injured on Wednesday when he was hit on the head by a stone.

Dlamini said police used rubber bullets at some point to disperse the crowd, but they had merely moved closer to their shacks and kept throwing stones at officers who tried to remove rocks placed on Beyers Naude Drive. — Sapa
