Fun for a cause in Durban

Two events offer entertainment as well as a chance to feel warm and fuzzy after helping out a good cause.

? One of Durban’s most spectacular charity events, Night of 100 Stars, is an occasion brimming with good food, merriment and celebrity entertainment. The glittering gala dinner and show raises funds for cancer research and awareness projects run by the Durban branch of the Cancer Association of South Africa. Cansa celebrates its 80th birthday this year and does it in style with a programme featuring 40 well-known South African singers, dancers, actors, musicians and comedians.

Suncoast Casino, August 15, at 6pm. Tickets are R350 from Computicket and include a three-course meal and wine. Tel: 031 205 9525. Email: [email protected].

? Durban dancer, actress and television presenter Kajal Bagwandeen has come up with a fresh new idea to support Kerr House, a local place of safety, and the Durban Women’s Hospice. A Luxurious Women’s Month High Tea will take place at the Oyster Box Hotel, which recently hosted the wedding party of Monaco’s Prince Albert and his South African bride, Charlene Wittstock. Apart from the five-star cuisine, the event features two inspiring motivational speakers, Mary Papayya and Anne Dreyer, as well as charismatic comedienne Jailoshini Naidoo. There will be gift bags for each attendee and a Leigh Schubert garment and a Yuvati Shah jewellery piece will be auctioned.

The Oyster Box Hotel, Umhlanga Rocks, August 14, at 11am. Tickets are R425 and booking is essential. Tel: 083 226 7311.
