A North West pupil had his scrotum cut open by a sjambok when he was allegedly whipped by a teacher for not doing his homework, it was reported on Monday.
The school principal who allegedly administered the beating had now applied for early retirement, the Times said.
William Mojagi (55) headmaster of Eletsa Secondary School in Letlhabile township near Brits, appeared in court in February on an assault charge.
Isaac Khunou (20), the pupil he is alleged to have beaten last April, told the Times that the principal hit him three times with the sjambok. The third blow cut into his testicles — splitting open his scrotum.
“It was so painful I left the classroom running and he continued to punish the other pupils.”
Under pressure
Khunou, who is in grade 11, said he had been to private doctors, a clinic and a private hospital.
“I cannot cross my legs, I can’t sleep at night and I can’t walk properly,” the Times quoted him as saying.
He had to forfeit his spot on an amateur rugby team.
North West education department official, Paul Ntlatleng, told the Times that the matter would be investigated when Khunou produced a medical certificate.
Khunou claimed that he was being pressured to drop the charges while witnesses to the sjambokking claimed they were being harassed and victimised by teachers who did not want them to speak out. — Sapa
