The ANC says former Sowetan editor-in-chief Bongani Keswa
"We regard the late Bongani as a real professional, a media man of note, whose skills and commitment to the journalism industry will never be forgotten," said spokesperson Jackson Mthembu.
Keswa (48) died of cancer at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital on Sunday, shortly after being admitted.
"The ANC understands the importance and the role of the media in our society. This includes the role of committed journalists such as Bongani."
Mthembu said the ANC understood the limitations that the media industry was faced with on a daily basis, and has made recommendations to the Press Freedom Commission about its view regarding the challenges that faces the media industry.
"Expressly through our own internal forums and conferences, we have taken decisions to ensure the transformation of this industry in order for it to be in-line with ideal democratic principles as enshrined in our constitution."
He said Keswa represented an ideal developmental journalist, who was pre-occupied by factual, accurate and objective reporting all the time. – Sapa
