M&G Hangout: What is SA doing in CAR?

M&g Hangout: What Is Sa Doing In Car?

The saga over South Africa's controversial presence in the Central African Republic continues, with President Jacob Zuma being pressured into withdrawing troops on Thursday.

Zuma faced a massive public outrcry over the presence of the troops following the gunning down of 13 South African paratroopers in a battle that saw Seleka rebels seize the capital Bangui late last month.

The death of the soldiers was the country's heaviest military loss since the apartheid era.

We will discuss the situation in CAR and South Africa's involvement in the conflict in our weekly M&G Hangout live video at 10am on Friday April 5.

To answer your questions on the situation will be Mmanaledi Mataboge, a Mail & Guardian journalist who previously covered South Africa's military and defence and co-wrote Friday's lead story about the situation in CAR.

Joining her will be M&G associate editor Phillip de Wet.

We will also talk about the latest from our investigative unit amaBhungane regarding deals between the CAR and ANC-linked companies that ran parallel to the deployment of our troops in the region.

Send us your questions and remarks on Twitter using the tag #MGhangout.
