  • The fourth Fête de la Musique has found a new home at the Newtown Junction. The event attracts 10?000 people and features live performances and activities throughout the day at venues such as the Bassline, the Market Theatre and Artist Proof Studio. Featured performers include Jaojoby (Madagascar), Benjamin Piat (France) and Grèn Sémé (France/Reunion) as well as local headliners BCUC and Bongeziwe Mabandla.   • The Eastern Cape takes centre stage in a live show that features young musicians from the province. The show’s line-up includes South African Music Awards-winning artist Nakhane Touré, whose musical style is rooted in African indigenous music and folk, singer Moonchild Sanelly and the group Johnny Cradle. Moonchild is known for her richly textured urban sounds that can be clearly heard in the songs Go Sterring and Banana Peel, and Johnny Cradle is known for its roots-electro sound. WHEN June 26.   • On the last Sunday of every month, the Soweto Theatre stages jazz by local musicians. The next show is titled The Improvisers’ Session and features pianist Nduduzo Makhathini and percussionist Thebe Lepere. Makhathini is the Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year for Jazz winner and Lepere is a master percussionist who has performed internationally. This show will be mostly improvised, with the aim of telling the “untold stories of Africa, its culture and its people through sound”. WHEN June 28. WHERE Soweto Theatre. TIME 6pm. COST R100.   • Comedians Roni Modimola and Mashabela Galane will be performing at the Vernacular Spectacular stand-up show. Joining them are Noko Moswete, Pastor A, Elton Mduduzi and the Nyaope Boys. Their skits will be delivered in indigenous languages to celebrate ethnicity. “The Last King of S’khotha’land”, Pule Skhothane will host the shows. WHEN June 26 to 28.   • Youth dance groups hope to set the stage alight at the Azishe! festival, presented by the Jazzart Dance Theatre and directed by Sifiso E Kweyama. The Jazzart Dance Theatre was founded in 1973 and is acknowledged as one of South Africa’s leading and oldest contemporary dance theatre performing companies. WHEN July 1 to 4.   • TV presenter and comedian Tats Nkonzo is staging his one-man show, The Clever Black, which is produced by fellow funnyman Nik Rabinowitz. Nkonzo won first place at the Montreux International Comedy Festival in November 2014 and has hosted the TV talent show, SA’s Got Talent. The Clever Black addresses “unconventional solutions to nation-building, from service delivery to the spread of illnesses”.   • Women in Resistance/Femmes en Résistance is an exhibition by French photographer Pierre-Yves Ginet that “aims to recognise the struggle, contribution, but also the sacrifice, of women, for survival, dignity, democracy, equality and justice all over the world”. The exhibition is interactive and invites the public to be a part of the theme, by taking an auto portrait in front of the Women in Resistance/Femmes en Résistance backdrop, uploading your Women in Resistance selfie to the dedicated Facebook page and adding an inspiring text to accompany your image.
