The Riverfields development has been identified by Ekurhuleni as a strategic mega-project that is key to achieving its aerotropolis vision and objectives
The development north of OR Tambo airport creates an excellent link between the aerotropolis and Tembisa, unlocking economic and employment growth for Tembisa and the greater Kempton Park area while consolidating a major mixed-use development along the Albertina Sisulu Corridor to Tshwane.
“Participating in this important conference was but one of the ways in which Riverfields is consolidating its relationships with the City of Ekurhuleni — a partnership we value greatly,” said Lardus Erasmus, director of the Riverfields Development Company.
Riverfields was showcased throughout the conference and exhibition. To date, Riverfields has contributed to the growth of Ekurhuleni municipality by constructing an R80-million underpass along the R21 and Witfontein 52 roads to improve accessibility and ease of movement for motorists, commuters, pedestrians and cyclists to Riverfields.
It has spent a further R1.1-billion on the construction of external engineering services, such as new roads, sewer lines, water reticulation and electrical infrastructure to Riverfields, most of which will be handed over to the municipality for the benefit of the wider community.
It is also creating 160 000 employment opportunities. From investment and development, broken down to logistics and warehousing, corporate offices, leisure and hotel facilities, retail centres and residential housing, opportunities at Riverfields are extensive.
Strategically located close to the Albertina Sisulu highway, Riverfields does not experience the traffic congestion that other commercial hubs such as Sandton do.
