Mbeki will not suspend Zuma

President Thabo Mbeki has emphasised in Parliament that he will not suspend Deputy President Jacob Zuma as he is not a court and a person is innocent until proven guilty. ”We will not take any disciplinary action simply on the basis of allegations,” he said.

Capital gains tax deadline extended

Minister of Finance Trevor Manuel has announced the extension, by a year, of the deadline for the evaluation of second properties in terms of the capital gains tax legislation to September 30 2004. He said that there was a shortage of evaluators in South Africa and the government had acceded to requests for an extension.

NNP opposes spy probe committee

The New National Party has come out with guns blazing against the proposed ministerial committee to investigate the allegation that National Director of Public Prosecutions Bulelani Ngcuka was an apartheid-era spy.
