Nine months after the first arrest warrants were issued for those suspected of being behind atrocities in Sudan’s Darfur region, the chief international prosecutor believes he has the masterminds in his sights. International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo has vowed to target the most senior people behind the violence.
Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende submitted his government’s resignation on Friday, clearing the way for a possible election, after a simmering immigration debate spilled over into a full-scale political crisis. Balkenende tendered the resignation to the head of state, Queen Beatrix.

The annual cannabis growers’ bonanza in The Netherlands, the HighLife hemp fair, which is under way until Sunday, has come up in the world since it started nine years ago. More than 20 000 visitors from Europe and North America are expected to travel to Amsterdam for the annual event.

The International Court of Justice, the United Nations’s highest court, ruled on Monday that Uganda violated the sovereignty of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by sending armed troops into the country. However, the judges ruled that the Ugandan government did not carry out ”a deliberate policy of terror”.
