Levi’s feels the squeeze

One of the most enduring clichés in the fashion world is that it is the details that make the difference. This particular detail measures 12cm by 10cm, but it has started what is turning out to be the biggest legal battle in the fashion industry. The back pocket of Levi’s jeans, decorated with two intersecting arcs and a simple cloth tag, has been, Levi’s contends, "shamelessly copied" by other denim brands.

Behind every great male writer …

In what is likely to be the only instance in which one uses such a phrase, it turns out that Dan Brown is part of a grand literary tradition. In the ongoing court case involving allegations that Brown stole most of his ideas for The Da Vinci Code from another book, the most memorable revelation so far has been that Brown’s wife, Blythe, has been doing much of his work for him.

Rugby’s new style

They are, at least, an improvement on the stripy monstrosities of yore. The new rugby shirt may have a Nike swoosh swooping up to the armpit, handily pointing out any sweat stains in case anyone overlooked them, but remember those chunky horizontal stripes? Might as well have stuffed a cushion and a couple of tyres beneath your top to finish it off.
