Residents of the impoverished Skielik community on Saturday buried three loved ones who were gunned down last week, allegedly by 18-year-old Johan Nel. Enoch Tshepo Motshelanoka (10), three-month-old Keditlhotse Elizabeth Moiphitlhi and her 31-year-old mother, Anna, were buried at the Swartruggens cemetery.

Grieving relatives of the victims of the Skielik killings gathered outside their homes to comfort one another after leaving court where the alleged killer appeared briefly on Thursday. A man and two children were gunned downed outside their homes in the settlement, 10km outside Swartruggens in the North West, on Monday.

Western Cape Premier Ibrahim Rasool on Saturday met emergency personnel after a killer storm left two dead and damage estimated at around R600-million. An official of the devastated Eden district municipality said storms that ravaged the Cape have caused damage estimated between R500-million and R600-million to the Poort area.
