Robinson’s future remains uncertain

Andy Robinson was still in his post as coach of the England rugby team on Tuesday with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) refusing to confirm reports throughout the British media that he had resigned. An RFU spokesperson reiterated that a review, which started on Monday, into world champions England’s November home international programme, was continuing.

Pretorius leads Springboks to victory

Andre Pretorius turned in a commanding display at outside-half as South Africa beat England 25-14 at Twickenham in London on Saturday for their first away win this year. It was also the Springboks’ first win against England in eight matches and their first at Twickenham since 1997.

Goode to start at flyhalf against Boks

Andy Goode will start at flyhalf for England in their second Test against South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday. Goode came off the bench last weekend to replace the injured Charlie Hodgson and kicked effectively, both out of hand and at goal, as he scored seven points in a 23-21 win over the Springboks.

England flyhalf Hodgson in Bok sights

South Africa coach Jake White has promised England flyhalf Charlie Hodgson a second torrid match at Twickenham in as many weeks as the Springboks bid to send the world champions crashing to a record eighth straight loss. Hodgson was taken off early in the second half of England’s inept 25-18 defeat by Argentina last weekend.

White shakes up Springboks

South Africa coach Jake White made several changes to his side for Saturday’s opening Test against England, bringing in six players to his starting line-up from the team that ran out in last weekend’s tour-opening 32-15 defeat against Ireland.
Wite also made several positional switches for what will be the first of two back-to-back Tests against world champions England at Twickenham.

Under-pressure coach Andy Robinson called on England fans to get behind his struggling side and said the pain of their current losing streak was necessary if the world champions were to regain their place at the summit of world rugby union. England face South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday in the first of two back-to-back Tests after a record-equalling run of seven straight defeats.

England coach Andy Robinson has insisted Argentina pose just as big a threat to the struggling world champions’ hopes of an elusive win as anyone else they will face at Twickenham this month. England have lost their last six matches, a run that continued last weekend with a 41-20 defeat by 2007 World Cup favourites New Zealand.

All Blacks rewrite the history books

New Zealand coach Graham Henry said the All Blacks are exactly where they wanted to be a year out from the World Cup after their record 41-20 win over struggling reigning champions England on Sunday at Twickenham. The All Blacks’ tally featured tries from Aaron Mauger, Joe Rokocoko, Carl Hayman and Daniel Carter.

Inzamam banned for four ODIs

Pakistan cricket captain Inzamam ul-Haq was cleared on Thursday of ball-tampering but found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute over his side’s refusal to play during last month’s fourth Test against England. After a two-day disciplinary hearing, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced that Inzamam would be banned for four one-day internationals (ODIs).
