The elusive president

Where is Thabo Mbeki? This is the question many ANC members have been asking since he failed to attend the important first meeting of the party’s new national executive committee, as well as the party’s birthday celebrations in Atteridgeville last weekend. Gender parity plan in trouble

An attempt to get the principle of gender parity elevated to the top structures of the ANC was trounced on Monday night, the Mail & Guardian has learned.
The policy, also known as the 50/50 principle, is a steep change in empowerment in the ANC and requires that every alternative position available for leadership be reserved for a female candidate.

Making the metro work

Skills shortages, touted as the critical issue hampering the effectiveness of government, are nowhere more obvious than at local government level, role players in the sector told the Mail & Guardian.
