Nadeco suspends Ziba Jiyane

Ziba Jiyane, leader of the National Democratic Convention (Nadeco), has been suspended by the management committee of his political party. On Tuesday, Nadeco national chairperson Mandla Magubane said: ”They [Jiyane and Nadeco secretary general Jabulani Maphalala] have brought the party in disrepute.”

World-famous SA rocker enters rehab

Internationally successful South African rock act Seether’s front man, Shaun Morgan, has entered a rehabilitation clinic, and the band have cancelled all their August appearances until further notice. Morgan has established himself as one of the leading singers in rock over the past five years.

New Gauteng crime plan holds promise

Gauteng residents have been promised more visible policing, more roadblocks and improved 10111 call centres as part of an intensive new crime-fighting strategy to be implemented over the next six months — although an analyst has pointed out that parts of the strategy look like "more of the same".
