Standard Bank accounts hacked

”Some money” was taken from Standard Bank clients when hackers gained access to the bank’s accounts, group spokesperson Ross Linstrom said on Wednesday. ”There has been some money [taken] but very little. That is not our concern. Our concern is tightening up [security]. In terms of people, it is less than ten,” Linstrom said.

Stop patronising Africa, Mlambo-Ngcuka tells press

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka told Western newspaper editors on Monday to stop generalising about Africa and concentrate more on the continent’s success stories. Issues of real concern, such as Western poaching of Africa’s best and brightest talent, were being overlooked as the world’s media focused on wars and poverty, she told the annual world congress of the International Press Institute.

At least 2 148 people were executed in 2005 despite the majority of the world’s countries having abolished the death penalty in law or in practice, Amnesty International said on Tuesday. Among those put to death were children and people with mental disabilities.

Three stripes and you’re out: Adidas sues ITF

Adidas, the German sportswear manufacturer, is suing the tennis Grand Slams and the sport’s governing body in a dispute over their three-stripes trademark, the Wimbledon organisers said on Tuesday. The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTCC) said it would vigorously defend the action, which is set to go to court in May. Papers were served against the club last week, chief executive Ian Ritchie said.
