Mentoring maintains high standards

Matching numbers with technology

For many years I trained grade 10, 11 and 12 learners to use accounting software and saw numerous matriculants who successfully passed the programme getting snapped up by employers immediately after school. Most of these youngsters found employment in the accounting departments of cash-based businesses or in companies such as Game, Edgars, Woolworths and First National Bank.

South African to be in ICC hot seat

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will be headed up by a South African within the next four months. Imtiaz Patel, CEO of SuperSport, has been offered the position of CEO at the ICC and now it’s just a matter of negotiating terms before he takes over the reigns from current CEO Malcolm Speed in early July.

Where are South Africa’s good men?

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka on Sunday called on men to take up their responsibility in the war against violence against women and children and the scourge of HIV/Aids. Mlambo-Ngcuka, speaking at the Fourth Treatment Action Campaign’s national congress at the Birchwood Hotel, said: ”When good men are silent, they become part of the problem.”

Pirates crash out to Santos

Santos had goalkeeper Wayne Roberts to thank as they advanced through to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup after beating Orlando Pirates 5-4 on penalties at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Roberts made saves three times in the shoot-out after the match had ended 2-2 after full-time.

Huxley resigned to never playing again

Australia utility back Julian Huxley has conceded he will never play rugby again after confirmation he needs surgery to remove a brain tumour. Huxley discovered he had a benign tumour while undergoing scans after he began convulsing on the field during a Super 14 match for the ACT Brumbies earlier this month.
