Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp insisted on Thursday a police probe into corruption in football had nothing to do with him. In a statement at the English Premier League club’s Eastleigh training ground, Redknapp said he was ”bitterly disappointed” to have been arrested on Wednesday and had been left ”deeply hurt” by the incident.

An extra R87-million has been allocated to help people living in extreme poverty, Social Development Minister Zola Skweyiya said on Thursday. A ”final briefing” on whether African National Congress deputy president Jacob Zuma would have to face new corruption charges would be given to the acting National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) on Thursday. The final toll from Cyclone Sidr was likely to be more than 4 000 as hundreds of fishermen are still missing in Bangladesh, the army said on Thursday. Armed forces spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Faruque Hussain, giving updated figures, said 3 256 bodies had been found and that 880 people were missing and feared dead.
