The African National Congress (ANC) is prepared to use the police, the National Prosecuting Authority and the Public Protector to silence dissent in the media and the opposition, Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille said on Saturday. The police are obliged to investigate fraud and corruption charges against Scorpions boss Gerrie Nel if a criminal complaint has been brought, the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) said on Friday. Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe is ignoring approaches from former South African president Nelson Mandela to step down, reports said on Friday.
