Ajax, Santos play to draw

The Castle Premier Soccer League derby between Ajax Cape Town and Santos at the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town on Wednesday ended in 1-1 draw. Both goals were scored in the second half. Ajax supporters were surprised to see Moeneeb Josephs in goals, as he had been suspended for six months for an alleged drug offence.

Sundowns beat hapless Dynamos

Red cards and penalties punctuated a night of drama as Sundowns scored a resounding 4-0 victory over a hapless Dynamos in a Premier Soccer League match at the Giyani Stadium on Wednesday. The win ensured Sundowns will go into the end-of-the-year recess at the top of the log, one point ahead of Orlando Pirates.

Palestinians may delay poll over voting ban

The Palestinian Authority would postpone its parliamentary elections if Israel barred Palestinian residents of Jerusalem from participating, the Palestinian deputy prime minister said on Wednesday. Israeli officials said they would not allow voting in East Jerusalem if the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas was involved.

EU urges DRC to forge ahead with elections

The European Union on Wednesday called on the transitional government in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to forge ahead with elections after voters gave overwhelming backing to constitutional reform in a referendum, according to partial results. The referendum is but a ”starting point”, the EU said.
