Bulls show Lions how it’s done

The Blue Bulls showed glimpses of a championship outfit when they recorded a morale boosting 39-24 win over the Lions in their Currie Cup encounter played at Ellis Park on Saturday. It may not have been the prettiest game to the eye but pretty was not what Heyneke Meyer and his troops crossed the Jukskei River for.

France end Boks’ unbeaten run

France gave the Springboks a rude awakening to their international season when they produced a classy performance of total rugby to beat the Springboks 36-26 at a packed Newlands on Saturday. The French completely outplayed the Boks, and brought an abrupt halt to the Boks’ proud 13-match unbeaten run on home soil.

White: Boks don’t have backs to the wall

They failed to get going against the World XV, showed potential in the first Test against Scotland and stuttered to a worrying victory in the second. Injuries force changes to Bok team

Injuries have continued to hamper the Springbok team ahead of their one-off Test against France on Saturday in Cape Town. Springbok coach Jake White named a team for the first time without both his enforcers in Schalk Burger and Bakkies Botha, who have been ruled out due to injury.

Boks scrape through against Scotland

An uninspired Springboks outfit managed to scrape through to a 29-15 victory over Scotland to end up 2-0 in their two Test series played at the Eastern Province Rugby Union stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday. The home side offered little on the day as they came under some unrelenting pressure from a determined Scottish pack.

Clinical Boks outplay Scotland

After 100 years in existence, the Springboks celebrated with a clinical 36-16 victory over Scotland at King’s Park Stadium in Durban on Saturday. A revamped Bok outfit outscored their northern-hemisphere counterparts by four tries to none and also scored four penalties and two conversions.

That seems to have been Springbok coach Jake White’s message to his team ahead of their season-opening Test against Scotland in Durban on Saturday. With much fanfare being made by the Scottish contingent about how they will take on the Bok forward challenge, White’s chief priority is victory.

Ludeke relieved of Lions coaching job

Cats coach Frans Ludeke was on Wednesday relieved of his duties as Lions coach for this season’s Currie Cup. South Africa Under-19 coach and Ludeke’s assistant at the Lions, Eugene Eloff, was announced as the man to take the Lions’ hot seat at a press briefing held in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
