The Western Cape department of health has asked the Scorpions for help in busting a suspected crime syndicate stealing hospital linen. ”In the past three years we have lost hospital linen to the value of more than R23-million,” provincial minister of health Piet Meyer said on Wednesday.

Alec Erwin braves the catwalk

Trade and Industry Minister Alec Erwin fleetingly braved the catwalk on Wednesday evening when he walked to the podium at the opening of this year’s Design Indaba Expo in Cape Town. ”It’s the first time ever [that] I’ve walked on the catwalk,” he joked, adding that while he might survive, ”whether the fashion industry would survive” was not so certain.

Empowerment could ‘blunt SA’s edge’

Swiss big business on Friday endorsed South Africa’s economic policies, but cautioned that legislation such as black economic empowerment could blunt the country’s competitive edge. ”Laws should be limited otherwise what we will see is apartheid from the other side,” a Swiss business leader said.
