Troubled times for SA cricket

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Monday announced the team that Proteas coach Mickey Arthur and the national selectors wanted, but the dispute in South African cricket is far from over. The team announced after a week’s delay resulting from the bitter row between Arthur and CSA president Norman Arendse was the one that Arendse had twice vetoed.

ANCYL: No decision on Zuma reinstatement

There has been no decision by the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) to call for the reinstatement of party president Jacob Zuma as deputy president of the country, the league’s spokesperson said on Monday. ”If there was a decision, it would have been communicated,” said spokesperson Zizi Kodwa.

Zambia, Zim place military on flood alert

Zambia and neighbour Zimbabwe said on Monday they had placed military forces on flood alert after opening a floodgate at a key dam that is expected to force Mozambique to evacuate 100 000 people. Munyaradzi Munodawafa, a senior Zimbabwe Energy Ministry official, said military forces would watch for heavy flooding on the Zambezi River.

Annan calls for Kenya deal within days

Kofi Annan urged Kenya’s rival leaders on Monday to hold urgent talks to find an end within 72 hours to the political crisis and unrest that has left more than 1 000 people dead. Annan was appointed as mediator by the African Union to try to broker an agreement to end weeks of violence since a disputed December 27 presidential election.
