Cameroon refuses to accept Pfister as coach

Cameroon’s soccer federation are refusing to accept Otto Pfister as their new coach, rejecting his appointment by the country’s sports ministry last week. Fecafoot president Mohamed Iya has told Sports Minister Augustin Edjoa that the federation would not sign a proposed contract with the 70-year-old German coach.

Egypt ruling party gives secretary general new term

Egypt’s ruling party gave ageing politician Safwat el-Sherif another term as party secretary general on Monday, ending speculation that President Hosni Mubarak’s son Gamal might take that position. Sherif (73) has been near the top of the National Democratic Party (NDP) since its foundation in 1977 and has been secretary general since 2002.

Pedrosa wins Valencia Grand Prix

Spain’s Dani Pedrosa snatched the runners-up spot in the MotoGP world championship with victory in the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix after rival Valentino Rossi had to retire because of a technical problem. It was the first time that five-times world champion Rossi has finished outside the top two in any category.
