White is what the South African cricket team will wear when they begin a Test series against New Zealand in Johannesburg next week.

With prospects of yet another foreigner winning the Soweto Marathon, Athletics South Africa has decided to invest in the future of the sport. And that future, it says, lies with middle-distance runners such as 24-year-old University of Free State star Boy Soke. On Sunday, Soke will run the 10km route of the Soweto road race.

The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by three cents a litre on Wednesday November 7, the Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday. The wholesale price of diesel — all grades — will decrease by six cents a litre.

Amnesty International urged governments on Friday not to send anyone suspected of crimes during Rwanda’s 1994 genocide to be tried in the country, saying it had serious concerns over the justice system. The Central African country wants suspects in the 100-day slaughter of 800Â 000 minority Tutsis and moderate Hutus to be transferred to its custody.

Saudi Arabia has signalled that it will not attend the Middle East peace conference scheduled by the United States for this month unless there is significant agreement in advance on the core issues that divide Israelis and Palestinians. Prince Saud al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister, also held out a vision of normalisation between the Arab world and Israel.

China warned on Thursday that unauthorised protests will not be tolerated during the Olympics next year, raising the prospect of detentions for civil rights campaigners and religious activists during the two-week event.
