A suspected suicide bomber killed 133 people on Friday in an attack on former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto, as she was driven through Karachi to greet supporters on her return from eight years in exile. Bhutto was unhurt in one of the deadliest attacks in her country’s history.

Eskom has issued a warning that there will be a high probability of load shedding Friday morning. This was due to a shortage of generating capacity Eskom was experiencing at present, the parastatal said. However, the situation was expected to improve by midday.

FBI agents have seized nearly -million in cash from a Las Vegas warehouse owned by illusionist David Copperfield, local media reports said on Thursday. The agents also took a computer hard drive and a memory chip from a digital camera system during Wednesday’s late-night operation.

Cecilia Sarkozy’s marriage to French President Nicolas Sarkozy ended because she hated being in the public spotlight and their relationship had broken down, she said in a newspaper interview. Sarkozy’s office announced on Thursday the couple had divorced after 11 years of marriage.

Johannesburg police were on Friday looking for three men driving a blue Volkswagen Polo believed to have been involved in the murder of reggae star Lucky Dube (43). The musician was shot dead in a botched hijacking in Rosettenville at about 8.20pm on Thursday night, said a police spokesperson.

Celebrity businessman Mandla Mthembu is confident that his company, Martial Eagle Investments, will be the winning bidder for a 55% controlling stake in Johnnic Communications. Johncom has already announced plans to unbundle and restructure, but Mthembu says he hopes to finalise the offer before the group splits. Scottish-born actress Deborah Kerr, best known for her performance as the adulterous wife alongside Burt Lancaster in the 1953 film From Here to Eternity, has died aged 86. ”She died on [October 16],” agent Anne Hutton said on October 18.
