US storm system spawns Florida tornado

Severe weather, including a possible tornado, damaged about 50 homes in central Florida before the system became a subtropical depression on Friday and had parts of the Gulf Coast under tropical-storm warnings. Television news footage showed a boat overturned in a yard, a toppled mobile home and downed trees.

Suicide bomber rams car into Algerian convoy

A suicide bomber rammed a booby-trapped car into a convoy in Algeria on Friday, wounding two French engineers and an Italian, in an attack only hours after al-Qaeda called for an offensive against French targets. Six Algerians, five of them police, were also injured in the attack near the town of Lakhdaria.

Twenty20 draws closer to final

The inaugural Twenty20 World Championship has been whittled down from 12 teams to just four, and by 10pm on Saturday evening, it will be known which two teams will battle it out in the final at the Wanderers on Monday. The first semifinal, pits Pakistan against New Zealand, and the second, between Australia and India, should be a cracker.
