The African Christian Democratic Party should be allowed to contest the local government elections in the Cape Town unicity, the Constitutional Court ruled on Friday. ”The court … declares that the applicant is entitled to contest the elections in the Cape metropolitan area on March 1,” Justice Kate O’Regan said on Friday.

Police have denied news reports that Minister of Defence Mosiuoa Lekota was prevented from leaving a Khutsong stadium on Friday. ”There was no such thing whatsoever,” said police spokesperson Superintendent Mary Martins-Engelbrecht of reports that Lekota had been unable to leave the stadium for about 20 minutes.

Three people have been arrested in connection with one of Britain’s biggest robberies, police said on Friday, after they recovered three of the getaway vehicles. A group of thieves made off with up to £50-million from a cash depot in the small market town of Tonbridge, south-east of London.

The petrol price is to decrease by 11 cents per litre next Wednesday, the Department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday. The new retail price of petrol of R5,52 per litre inland means the retail petrol price will have declined by 8,5% since it peaked at a record R6,03 cents per litre in October 2005.
