An animal behaviouralist says she’s figured out what dogs are doing when they make that excited panting noise while playing or anticipating a much-desired walk. They’re laughing — and she also found that the sound of dog laughter comforts other dogs.

Groundbreaking African-American comedian Richard Pryor died of a heart attack early Saturday at the age of 65, his wife said. The pioneering stand-up comic and actor who broke barriers with his unflinching racial satire had been in declining health for years after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1986.

Oil heavyweight Saudi Arabia set the tone on Sunday on the eve of an Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) meeting on prices and production, saying there is no need to change present output at least for the first quarter of 2006. Opec is currently pumping about 30-million barrels a day of crude, a third of world demand.

Ethiopia said on Friday it is prepared to withdraw from its disputed border with Eritrea in compliance with a United Nations order aimed at reducing tension between the two countries. ”This move is in the interests of peace,” said Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin, according to the Ethiopian News Agency.
