Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka should reimburse the presidency for the cost of her recent private trip to the United Arab Emirates, the Public Service Accountability Monitor (PSAM) said on Friday. It said there were clear guidelines the deputy president had flouted and would only begin to restore public confidence in her office once she paid back the money.

Sangonet aims to encourage NGOs to use the internet as a communication and advocacy tool.

The National Treasury is unlikely to deviate from the path it has pursued since 1995, one of gradually dismantling exchange controls in a phased and responsible manner, despite speculation that the government may opt for a "big bang" approach to lifting remaining exchange-control regulations, Brait economist Colen Garrow said on Friday.

The JSE on Friday climbed to a fresh all-time high on positive sentiment from the previous day’s trade as well as higher metals prices and international equity markets. By 12.15pm, the all-share index added 0,89% and the all-share industrial gained 0,75%. Financials climbed 0,59% and resources climbed 1,21%.

A bottle with a message inside thrown in the sea in Britain has turned up in Australia six months later, news reports said on Friday. Alesha Johnson (4) threw the message-in-a-bottle into Morecambe Bay in the north of the United Kingdom in July.

No one is particularly surprised that a stressful day at work raises blood pressure, but a new study in Britain suggests that on-the-job tension also can lead to heart disease and diabetes. A study of more than 10 000 British civil servants over a 14-year period has found a possible biological explanation for why workplace stress adversely effects health.
