Dumitru names Nations Cup squad

Bafana Bafana coach Ted Dumitru sprung a few surprises this weekend when he named his 23-strong squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations. He has included lesser-known Benoni Premier United defender Tsepo Masilela, midfielder Mlungisi Gumede, Simphiwe Tshabalala and evergreen Pirates midfielder-cum-defender Daniel ”Sailor” Tshabalala.

Record-breaking Titans reach final

A record 218-run opening partnership between AB de Villiers and Gulam Bodi saw the Titans cruise to a convincing 10-wicket victory over the Dolphins in their Standard Bank Cup semifinal cricket match at Supersport Park in Centurion on Sunday. The Dolphins scored 212 for five wickets in their 45 overs.

Burton hold Man United to draw

Non-league Burton Albion held mighty Manchester United to an FA Cup third-round 0-0 draw on Sunday while struggling Championship side Leicester sent seven-time champions Tottenham crashing out. Fulham became the first shock casualties of the third round as they crashed 2-1 to League Two side Leyton Orient at Craven Cottage.

Medics begin waking Sharon from coma

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was being gradually awoken on Monday from a deep coma so his doctors can assess the extent of damage to his brain following a massive stroke. The procedure will be the biggest breakthrough in his condition since the 77-year-old former general has been wired up to a life support machine after a huge brain haemorrhage.

Mini grows with introduction of new model

BMW’s cult car the Mini Cooper is getting bigger with the introduction of a fourth model designed to look like a sports utility vehicle, the automaker said on Monday.
The broader, chunkier version will hit the global market in less than three years, BMW said at the unveiling of an early concept model at the Detroit auto show.

Gold helps JSE to record high

The JSE roared to yet another record high on Monday morning spurred on by a rampant gold price. Positive sentiment towards equities also contributed to the bourse’s strength. By 11.55am, the all share index was up 0,97% at 18 592,87 after earlier touching a highest ever 18 623,561.
