Harris, Moleon undefeated for Lions

Matthew Harris and Eugene Moleon helped the Lions to reach a lead of 236 on the third day of their Supersport Series match against the Cape Cobras on Saturday. Also, the Free State Eagles took an overall lead against the Warriors and the Titans set about building a huge second-innings score against the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins.

Surprising win for Stars

Free State Stars surprised themselves with their first win of the season when they beat Black Leopards 3-2 at Thohoyandou Stadium in the only Premier Soccer League match played on Saturday. Striker Sifiso Vilakazi gave Stars the lead via his head early on in the first half.

Healthy profit for PSL

The Premier Soccer League’s (PSL) thriving R180-million industry is set to grow. This was the confident predicition from chairperson Irvin Khoza at Saturday’s annual general meeting of South African soccer’s professional wing. The league’s balance sheet reflected a healthy R6-million profit.

Bafana ‘gave away goals cheaply’

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter blames his team’s lack of authority in defence for Bafana’s 3-2 loss against Senegal in the Nelson Mandela Cup match played at the Epru Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday. ”We have got to work harder at our defending, as we gave away goals cheaply,” an irritated Baxter said afterwards.

All Blacks halfway to grand slam

England flexed their forward muscle against Australia on Saturday and gathered their confidence before meeting the rampant New Zealand rugby juggernaut next weekend. In Saturday’s internationals, New Zealand outclassed Ireland 45-7 to be halfway to a grand slam and England barged aside Australia 26-16.

De Beers forced to face modern black reality

The winds of change are blowing across South Africa — 11 years after the apartheid regime was dismantled — and nowhere more so than at De Beers, the world’s largest diamond producer.
