Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has all but ruled out his Movement for Democratic Change party will join a new Senate to be introduced under controversial government constitutional reforms. Tsvangirai, said a bicameral parliament was not a priority among food and fuel-short Zimbabweans.

Retief Goosen bogeyed the 18th hole on Sunday and shot a 5-under 67 to win the German Masters by a stroke. The two-time US Open champion’s total score was 20-under 268 after he missed a 3-foot putt for par at the 18th that almost cost the South African his 22nd title.

In a poor advertisement for Currie Cup rugby the Lions overcame a decidedly off colour Cheetahs outfit 31-20 in a patchy encounter played at the Vodacom Park Stadium in Bloemfontein on Saturday. Leading 21-13 at the break, the Lions inexplicably failed to use their backs, which in the first half had torn the Cheetahs apart.

Australia’s cricketers have received death threats via e-mail during their Ashes tour of England. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said Sunday that officers arrested a 32-year-old man Friday in Stoke-on-Trent, northern England, ”in connection with an allegation of making threats to kill.”

Centre Jean de Villiers scored a hat trick of tries as Western Province annihilated the Sharks 47-19 in their Currie Cup clash at Newlands on Saturday. The Springbok star’s elusive running combined with the crash-tackling of De Wet Barry and slick passing of flyhalf Peter Grant were the key elements in setting up the victory.

Shane Warne once again rocked England before bad light came to England’s rescue on the fourth day of the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval on Sunday. England were seven for one in their second innings, after Warne had struck with his fourth ball, when bad light and then rain forced an early tea with the home side 13 runs ahead.
