Iran: No ‘immediate’ uranium plans

Chief Iranian nuclear negotiator Hassan Rowhani on Thursday said his government has no immediate plans to resume uranium enrichment, a step that has been widely discouraged by the international community. ”We have informed the Europeans about our dissatisfaction with the process of the nuclear talks,” he said.

Tycoon launches Man United takeover bid

American businessman Malcolm Glazer launched a formal £790,3-million (R9,1-billion) takeover bid for Manchester United on Thursday after raising his stake to nearly 57% in the world’s richest soccer club. There is strong opposition to a Glazer takeover from the fan-based group Shareholders United.

Church groups protest Swazi king’s powers

About 500 people representing church groups in Swaziland, Africa’s last absolute monarchy, staged a protest on Thursday against a new draft Constitution that they said gives King Mswati III too much power. The protesters, led by Catholic and Anglican bishops, marched to the offices of the prime minister in the capital, Mbabane.

Jo’burg waste recycler runs into trouble

A waste-recycling plant in Johannesburg — described as a danger to the health of employees and the environment — was ordered on Thursday to comply with new regulations or face closure. ”You are in deep trouble. No rings around Manto, says government

The government denies it has ”ring-fenced” Minister of Health Manto Tshabalala-Msimang in an effort to limit her controversial pronouncements on HIV and Aids, and on treatment for victims of the disease. According to a Business Day report on Thursday, the government has ”thrown a ring” around Tshabalala-Msimang.
