South Africa have secured a place in Wednesday night’s final of the women’s international water-polo tournament taking place at the Joan Harrison complex in East London. Pipping Australia by five goals to four in the tense semifinal, after at one stage being 0-3 down, the South Africans now come up against favourites Russia.

Russia continued their winning streak on Tuesday night at the women’s international water-polo tournament in East London when they trounced South Africa A 22-4 in the last of the first-round matches. The well-drilled and super-fit Russian team have dominated the tournament so far, convincingly winning all their matches.

Portsmouth’s Lomana LuaLua scored an injury-time equaliser to earn a point against Liverpool in a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Tuesday, which will hamper the home side’s attempts to get in touch with the leading clubs during the Christmas programme. LuaLua headed home from a cross by substitute Matthew Taylor.

Lance Armstrong is suing a former personal assistant who claims the six-time defending Tour de France champion owes him 000. In a lawsuit filed on Monday, Armstrong and his personal service company, Luke David LLC, are seeking to declare an alleged employment contract with Mike Anderson invalid.

The United States’s trade deficit swelled to an all-time high of ,5-billion in October as imports — including those from China — surged to the loftiest levels on record. Skyrocketing crude-oil prices also contributed to the yawning trade gap. The trade imbalance widened by a sizable 8,9% in October from the previous month.

The body of the woman who was swept away by a swollen Braamfonteinspruit in Parkhurst on Monday was recovered in Bryanston, Johannesburg, early on Tuesday afternoon. Two police sniffer dogs located the body of 36-year-old Jennifer Manale 15km down the spruit a day after she was overwhelmed by floodwaters.

The Democratic Alliance, the official opposition, has asked that Parliament be reconvened in a special session to debate what it calls the ”secret arms deal”. On Tuesday, DA leader Tony Leon said: ”DA chief whip Douglas Gibson, MP, has written to the Speaker of Parliament to ask that Parliament be reconvened.”

Danish users of third-generation cellphones have been advised to consider precautions to avoid being harassed by flashers using the new technology, the Danish National Consumer Agency said on Tuesday. Internet search giant Google announced plans on Tuesday to digitise the contents of millions of library books and make them searchable online. The Silicon Valley firm said it is working with the libraries of Harvard, Stanford, the University of Michigan and the University of Oxford, as well as the New York Public Library.
