Dog-meat lovers held for eating pedigree hound

Three South Korean dog-meat lovers were facing a  000 lawsuit after cooking and eating their employer’s pedigree dog, a news report said on Friday. The men, all in their 50s and employed at a car-hire firm, killed and served up the dog in a traditional Korean soup dish during the employer’s absence from the company parking lot where the animal was tethered, Yonhap news agency reported.

Task team tackles wage impasse

A task team has been appointed to explore all possible options in an attempt to break the public-service pay hike impasse. Union officials said the team — which includes members from both the government and labour — will report back on Friday afternoon to the Public Service Coordinating Bargaining Council.

World markets, rand lift JSE

The JSE Securities Exchange (JSE) was in positive territory in noon trade on Friday, fuelled by strength in world markets and a light weakening in the rand. However, dealers said that the market could turn negative later in the day on profit taking following Thursday’s futures closeout.

‘Death threats’ in WMD case

A man who has turned state witness in a weapons of mass destruction (WMD) case has allegedly received death threats, the Vanderbijlpark regional court heard on Friday. This emerged during a bail application by two Randburg engineering company directors who were arrested during an international investigation into a nuclear trafficking network.
