Bagle is back

A new variant of the Bagle virus is spreading quickly around the world on computers connected to the internet, reports the Munich-based magazine PC Professionell. The latest variant, Bagle.AI, attaches itself to e-mail on infected computers and sends itself to all e-mail addresses contained in a user’s address book.

Portuguese oil-terminal fire under control

An intense fire at the Leixoes oil terminal near Portugal’s northern city of Oporto was under control early on Sunday following an explosion, with 32 firefighters and rescue workers hospitalised. An explosion, followed by a second blast hours later, rocked the Petrogal refinery on Saturday afternoon, causing a huge blaze.

Disappearing acts

Man oh man, is King Mswati a troubled king. The biggest scandal of the century has rocked the royal house. Two of his 11 wives have recently run away and are hiding in foreign lands. In my short lifetime, I have witnessed a significant phenomenon of men changing their minds about the kind of woman who has become acceptable to them.

Bloodshed in fresh Fallujah clashes

At least 10 Iraqis were killed and 40 wounded in Fallujah on Sunday in what appeared to be a fresh United States bombardment of the flashpoint city and in earlier clashes between US troops and insurgents. Panicked residents were seen rushing to the hospital to check on their loved ones or to give blood.

Chiefs dethroned by Sundowns

The new-look Sundowns dethroned defending Telkom Charity Cup Competition champions Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium near Soweto late on Saturday evening. It was a well-deserved victory under new coach Paul Dolezar and avenged the 1-0 defeat by Chiefs in last year’s final at the same venue.

Sharks finally get it right

After two disappointing home games Sharks coach Kevin Putt read the riot act to his men this week. And it paid dividends to such an extent that the KwaZulu-Natal side scored four tries for a vital bonus point as they beat old rivals Western Province 29-18 in a pulsating Absa Currie Cup rugby match on Saturday.

Springboks are a ‘very, very good side’

The South African Springboks flew out of Australia on Sunday with their Tri-Nations hopes all but shattered but their reputations as one of the world’s rugby superpowers well and truly restored. Wallaby coach Eddie Jones and veteran captain George Gregan heaped praise on their new-look and comparatively inexperienced rivals and their coach.

Giles stuns Windies

Ashley Giles took four wickets for five runs as West Indies collapsed to 336 all out on the third day of the second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Saturday. England at stumps were 148 for three in their second innings, a lead of 378, after captain Michael Vaughan decided not to enforce the follow-on.
