State IT Agency plans to improve

The State Information Technology Agency (Sita) has unveiled plans aimed at improving its services in the wake of increased client dissatisfaction, the state news agency BuaNews reported on Wednesday. The turnaround strategy was devised following increased complaints regarding Sita’s services, pricing and management.

Treading down the same path

Academics, political analysts and the media are waiting with keen anticipation for the results of the 2004 election, to see whether racial motivations will continue to be important in defining and explaining voting behaviour in South Africa. That is, to see whether black voters will vote for ”black” parties and white voters will vote for ”white” parties. Why do these voting patterns continue to be resilient?

US marines bomb Fallujah mosque

United States marines pressing an offensive in the Iraqi town of Fallujah, west of Baghdad, bombed a central mosque on Wednesday and killed up to 40 insurgents holed up inside, a marine officer said. The bombing came after several hours of small arms and rocket-propelled grenades fire from insurgents.

How popular is the president?

The results of a survey conducted to find out whether President Thabo Mbeki is doing a good job show that sentiments vary according to race, location and age — but the bottom line is that Mbeki’s popularity is improving. According to the research, 47% of respondents said Mbeki is doing a good job, compared with 27% in February 2002.

Astrapak subsidiary in BEE deal

A black empowerment consortium has acquired just more than 25% of listed packaging group Astrapak’s subsidiary Pak 2000, a leading manufacturer of plastic containers for the petrochemical industry, it was announced on Wednesday. The consortium comprises Durban-based entrepreneurs Michael Maziya and Anand Raidoo.
