Harsher punishment for child abusers

Tougher laws are needed to curb child abuse, say Kenyan lawmakers stunned by the sharp rise in violent attacks against children, local media reported Wednesday.
Thousands of Kenyan children are abandoned, beaten, raped, burned and tortured and the offenders are encouraged by the nation’s weak enforcement of child protection laws.

Leeds in takeover talks

Celta, Sparta Prague advance in League

Celta de Vigo and Sparta Prague advanced to the final 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday, eliminating esteemed clubs Lazio and four-time former winner Ajax from European competition. Former Spanish international Jose Ignacio Saenz scored in the 71st minute to lead Celta to a 2-1 win against a depleted AC Milan squad.

Kirsten linked with Sussex side

South Africa’s record Test run scorer Gary Kirsten is in line to replace Zimbabwean Murray Goodwin at county champions Sussex for the 2004/2005 season, it was revealed on Tuesday. The 36-year-old record caps holder with 95 is one of Sussex’s top targets to replace Goodwin.
