Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe on Tuesday said his newly appointed Cabinet remained ”a war Cabinet”, but this time to fight an internal war against corruption. ”It’s still a war Cabinet,” Mugabe told reporters shortly after a ceremony to swear in the newcomers to the Cabinet at State House, his official residence.

The Cape High Court on Tuesday reserved judgement in an urgent application launched by Nicro to secure voting rights for prison inmates who were jailed without the option of a fine. Nicro, the National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders, took the case to court on behalf of all such prisoners.

A suicide bomber detonated a car loaded with up to 225kg of explosives outside an army centre in Baghdad on Wednesday, killing 36 people, mainly recruits queuing to sign up. The attack came less than 24 hours after a almost identical attack on a police station south of the Iraqi capital that left 55 dead.
