Aids drugs to three million by 2005

The World Health Organisation and UNAids have launched a new initiative to provide anti-retrovirals to three million people by the end of 2005. The "3 by 5" campaign will focus on five areas, including global leadership in the fight against Aids and "sustained country support" for the therapy.

Zimbabwe to speed up land reform programme

The Zimbabwe government plans to amend land laws to allow it to confiscate more land from white farmers, according to details of an amended Bill published by the state-run Herald on Monday. A major change would be the scrapping of a requirement that a preliminary notice of acquisition by the government should be served on the farm owner.

Price stability remains a core objective, South African Reserve Bank (SARB) governor Tito Mboweni said in a speech at the annual heads of foreign missions dinner on Monday evening.
