More than 90 people were injured in a bus crash on the N8 highway between Bloemfontein and Botshabelo in the southern Free State on Tuesday morning, police said.
The bus was transporting about 130 adults and school children towards Bloemfontein when it developed ”mechanical problems”, police spokesperson Inspector Harry Nagel said.
The driver struggled to maintain control for about 400m but the bus, which had a second section connected to the back, split in half and rolled.
Nagel said that two people were critically injured, 30 had less serious injuries and about 60 had light injuries ranging from shock to scratches.
The nature of the mechanical fault was not clear yet but a rear wheel appeared to have broken off, Nagel said. Police were on the scene investigating, he added. – Sapa
