ICC wants tapes of Andrew Hall incident

The International Cricket Council has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board for the videotapes of South African all-rounder Andrew Hall and Yousuf Youhana’s verbal clash during their second one-day international on Sunday. Hall hit Youhana with his elbow as the batsman tried to complete a run, which led to a verbal exchange.

SA’s Retief sets All-Africa Games record

South Africa’s Lize-Mari Retief broke the All-African Games record — twice — in the women’s 50m butterfly on Monday as her nation’s swim team dominated the pool for a second day, winning five golds to go with the four it won a day earlier. Retief broke the record in the final with a mark of 27,56 seconds.

South Africa beats Pakistan by 13 runs

South Africa won the third one-day international by 13 runs at Iqbal Stadium on Tuesday after Pakistan failed to complete its quota of 50 overs in the stipulated time of three-and-a-half hours. Under the Duckworth-Lewis formula South Africa only had to score 208 for six after 45 overs to win.

Palestinians plan crackdown on militants

Yasser Arafat’s appointment of an emergency Cabinet is designed to give the Palestinian leadership room to manoeuvre a crackdown on armed factions and stave off threats of his expulsion, observers said on Monday. A source close to the new Cabinet said a decision had already been made to move against the hardliners.

Looming Nigerian strike affects oil price

Nigerian trade unions angrily demanded talks with the federal government on Monday as the deadline loomed for a nationwide general strike over fuel price rises. Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil producer, and labour leaders have threatened to disrupt crude exports and shut down government offices and firms.
